Traveling Mercies
Each time I study with any of the Iyengars (or their teachers) I am blessed.  The theme of the convention in Las Vegas was “The Journey - Annamayakosha to Anandamayakosha – From Body to Bliss.”  To me, it screamed Road Trip.

Chubby in America
Deena was crying.  She had been making great efforts to lose weight.  Her goal was to be able to weigh herself on the scales upstairs in the exercise area, that would mean she had to weigh less than 350 pounds.

Thanksgiving - It Lives ! !

The intention of my meditation is to converse with my soul, who  now sits next to me, I imagine looking at me expectantly.  The written instructions are, once connected to my soul, ask in my own words for direction in ‘reaching a state of pure spiritual consciousness.’  The words that fall from my consciousness are, “So, what do you want to do?”  After a pause, I sense from deep inside myself and from the seat next to me simultaneously, “Hmmm, I don’t know, what do you want to do?”

Contemplation

My Dad was in the hospital dying.  We all knew it.  I, for one, had chosen to ignore that knowledge and, to instead, focus all my energy on one of his physicians who kept saying that if he could get his strength up and SOON he could live longer.

A Yogi's Story

I've been practicing hatha yoga for about a year. I got started because I had gotten into some interesting correspondence with a woman in France who told me she was really feeling terrific as a result of doing the exercises in the book BIKRAM'S BEGINNING YOGA CLASS by Bikram Choudhury.

Gentle Yoga, Power Yoga

I have 2 dogs, Thelma and Louise, who have taught me quite a bit about discipline.  They are large but still behave like puppies, so we attended obedience training together.  There I learned how how to read with them (they already knew how to read and manipulate me), how to listen and communicate.

Sthira Sukhum Asanam  - Patanjali’s Sutras 2.46

Book 2, verse 46 can be translated as “Abide in ease in asana.”  If we learn and allow ease in asana, can we not allow this ease to creep into all aspects of our lives?

Why Attend a Yoga Workshop?

In 1985 I went to Feathered Pipe Ranch in Montana.  At that time, Judith Lasater was writing the asana column for “Yoga Journal”.  When YJ arrived in the mail, I went to the asana column first.  It was a great teacher.

Please Don't Take My Sunshine Away

I talked briefly with Judith Lasater after my father died.  She said to do lots of restoratives.  You may know that her book on restoratives was born from her work with her own personal grief.  She knows it helps us to come to peace with situations that are difficult.  I took her advice.  I did lots of restoratives.
